Venkatesh Maha is a renowned Indian filmmaker, celebrated for his exceptional work as a director, screenwriter, and producer. Hailing from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India, from a humble background, he scaled the heights of filmmaking while working in various capacities from a set-helper to eventually gaining widespread recognition for his debut directorial, 'C/o Kancharapalem.' This critically acclaimed film has been ranked as the best Telugu film on IMDB and ranked 16th in the IMDB top-rated Indian movies. The film was nominated for six FilmFare Awards, including Best Film and Venkatesh Maha as the Best Director. C/o Kancharapalem earned the esteemed FilmFare Critics' Choice Award for the Best Telugu Feature Film of the year 2019.

Maha's second feature film as a writer and director, 'Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya', (UMUR) was a direct Netflix release in 2020. It was an adaptation of a National award-winning Malayalam film, 'Maheshinte Prathikaram'. UMUR received appreciation from critics and the audience alike as one of the best adaptations and received the ‘FC Gold’ from Film Companion. It was also nominated for South Indian International Movie Awards under five categories.

 

In his third outing, Maha directed an episode in Amazon Prime's popular anthology franchise 'Modern Love - Hyderabad'. The episode titled 'Finding Your Penguin' was considered a brave and adventurous film by the critics and received appreciation for Maha's bold imagination of a young woman's dating world. Thereafter, Maha has been busy working in various capacities; as an actor, writer and producer with his latest production gearing up for a theatrical release.

 

Known for his ability to breathe life into deeply empathetic characters and delve into the intricacies of human relationships, Maha’s cinematic universes are spectacular and awe-inspiring while also being remarkably grounded, making his characters memorable. 

 

Considered as one of the most promising filmmakers in India today, he now brings to you, his magnum opus yet, Marmaanuvu. An eclectic mix of genres with glimmers of magical realism, shards of an edge-of-the-seat psychological thriller and the quirk of a dark comedy while at its core, it’s really a family drama.
